This contract involved the cutting of 34 nos. of underwater 500mm x 500mm piles and relocation of a pumping station from North Point waterfront to Sai Kung Sea as an artificial reef.
A key element in this project, whilst complying with the environmental considerations and the tight works programme, was the innovative method of cutting the underwater piles by a rotary belt, of which the sharp edge was made of diamond. Another main challenge associated with this project was the fixing, holding and transporting of the pumping station by two specifically designed floating pontoons.
Working adjacent to and, for some operations, in the sea added health and safety complications that were managed by specific control measures and tight site supervision.
